Meet the Press! Where Social Innovators Get Noticed - 12/15/11

Although entrepreneurs are some of the most innovative people in our world today, many need help getting the word out.

Through pitch nights, startups will 1) learn what the host journalist's publication looks for in a story and 2) get a solid critique of their pitch.

Five people will be selected to present their pitch. At the event, we will announce which entrepreneurs will present. Ideally, the winning pitch(es) will get featured, but that is up to the reporter! Here is what Alex is looking for:
  • What will be new or interesting to readers?
  • What action or decisions will readers make differently because they've heard about this story you're pitching?
For example, it's okay to pitch a story about a trend that will involve other companies and mention you as one of the companies in that trend.

Get it? If not, join our teleclass about creating story angles. It will be taught by Green Spaces co-founder Marissa Feinberg and offered twice before the event: Tues 12/13 at 1pm & Weds 12/14 at 6pm. Click here for Marissa's PR cred. To join the call, dial (605) 475-4825, access code 1005012.

Our first event will take place on Thursday, Dec. 15, 7-9 PM at Green Spaces NY, 394 Broadway, 5th floor, between Walker and White Sts.
Alex Goldmark will host our first event. Alex is a contributing editor for business at GOOD and public radio reporter. He covers a motley mix of topics, depending on what's fascinating at the time from social enterprise, philanthropy, and the ethics of money, to airplanes, biofuels and bikeshare, as well as a dash of art, motels, sports, politics, mustaches and deli meats. Before telling true stories to pay the rent, he was a researcher for the World Bank and the Aspen Institute and tried to end (or at least understand) poverty and violence in the favelas of Rio de Janeiro. He has a Master's degree in Public Policy from Georgetown, lives next to the Brooklyn Bridge and owns an orange velvet couch.

About the Topic: To many business leaders, innovation is a “soft” science, something that occurs frequently by accident, or when a good idea just “pops up”. But in reality, the world’s most creative companies consider innovation an actual process, as much a part of their operations as marketing or customer service. In this thought-provoking presentation, Jeff Hoffman teaches the audience how they can create and manage an innovation process in their own company, and how they can harvest the results of that process from idea to product to profitability.
